Campus BLUE popular with young people
When the deadline for applying for admission expired on 1 March, as many as 72 young people had applied for the 24 student places on the Vg1 natural sciences programme at Campus BLÅ. Of these, more than a third were girls (36%). At the same time, all Vg1 students have applied for Vg2 Aquaculture. -"We are delighted with the application figures," says Rikke Sivertsen Dahl, General Manager at Campus BLÅ.
Attractive education
She believes that young people from all over the country have discovered how attractive the aquaculture industry is, and is particularly pleased that so many girls are applying to Campus BLÅ: -"An education in aquaculture offers so many different opportunities, and it's definitely not just about the traditional tasks at the edge of the cage. You learn about biology, ecology, animal welfare, HSE and a lot of other exciting things - and it provides many job opportunities," emphasises a committed general manager.
Happy to collaborate with the industry
Campus BLÅ collaborates with the aquaculture industry in Helgeland and Nord-Trøndelag. -"The companies are very good at providing internships for the students, and that's worth its weight in gold. Our students gain a lot of valuable experience in practice, so we're very pleased with this collaboration," says Sivertsen Dahl.
Want 10 maritime apprenticeships
Campus BLÅ wants to expand its offering to students, and has applied for 10 school places in maritime subjects at Vg2. -"There is a great need for expertise locally, but also nationally. The industry needs skilled seafarers, and we have broad support from both local businesses and local politicians. They recognise the value of educating young people locally, and they know how much it means to business," says Sivertsen Dahl. Nordland county has rejected the application twice, and believes that such a programme would weaken the demand for public schools. -"We have other offers than the public school, and are therefore a good supplement," says Sivertsen Dahl.
A success story
Campus BLÅ upper secondary school is a private school initiative that was established at Toft in Brønnøy municipality in 2018. To date, the school has not had a single dropout among its students. The school currently offers Vg1 Nature Management, Vg2 Aquaculture, Vg2 Fishing and Hunting and Vg3 Preparatory Nature Management. Campus BLÅ has the entire country as its intake area, and currently 8 % of the students are from other regions. -"We are an important national programme and expect this proportion to increase," says Rikke Sivertsen Dahl.
