LENE i Salmon is important for Norway
In December, the Facebook page "Laks er viktig for Norge" (Salmon is important for Norway) ran an advent calendar, where they presented various people who work in aquaculture. On 19 December, our own Lene appeared in the calendar slot.
Lene Solli Lien, 36, is head of the display facility and display activities at Norsk Havbrukssenter AS. She is educated in aquaculture operations and management, and also has a practical pedagogical education. Lene started her career with an internship at the Norwegian Aquaculture Centre in 2010.
The best job in the world
- I really enjoyed working with Arnfinn and co, and worked for several years in other aquaculture companies afterwards, but wanted to return. The job at the display facility is fantastically varied, and you meet many different people. The combination of working both indoors and outdoors, having administrative tasks, working on the cage edge in normal operations, being a guide, teaching schoolchildren, driving a boat, being with my great and talented colleagues and much, much more - it makes this without a doubt the best job in the world!
Lene loves having kids over: - They are super eager and interested, and devour all the information. They taste the salmon and think it's good, even though they don't normally eat fish. It's also fun to have people who are critical of aquaculture, so we get a good professional discussion. They often leave here with more knowledge and a more positive attitude towards the whole industry.
New Year's wishes
"There are also some challenges in the job," she says: - "Keeping up to date. Coordinating operations at the exhibition centre in relation to the other sites in the area. And having to set aside land at the same time as continuous display activity. But we make it work!
What wishes, dreams and plans does Lene have for the new year? - That all the conflicts and unrest in the world will calm down, and that the civilian suffering will end. We need to be even better at appreciating what we have, being grateful and remembering how lucky we are to live where we do. I also hope that we can continue with the important work we do at the viewing centres - that politicians and others see the value of the work we do every single day locally, nationally and internationally.
